A queer retelling of the Estonian folklore epic, “Kalevipoeg.” The project started as a bachelor thesis project in EKA, supervised by Ott Kagovere.

Through speculative and research based practice, the goal of the work has been to bring representation to minorities present in Estonia, who deserve to be included in Estonian folklore. Depicting themes of hidden stories, forbidden love, loneliness, and community. Specific motifs and symbols from Estonian ethnology are given new, more inclusive meanings.

Queer Kalevipoeg won Silver at the 2022 Estonian Design Awards & Bronze at the 2023 European Design Awards.
